I am currently a consultant in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn. I have thoroughly enjoyed working in the Eastern region for the duration of my postgraduate training and have always been impressed by the dedication shown by geriatricians in our region to improving the care of older people.
Reason for joining to region committee:
As a registrar, I was privileged to hold the post of Education and Training Officer for the BGS. This role enabled me to develop a good understanding of the role of the BGS and how it can support its members. I am keen to build upon this experience and develop our networking ability both regionally and on a national level.
As Co Chair, I intend to do the following during my term of office:
I am keen to maintain, and enhance, our region’s commitment to achieving excellence in healthcare for the elderly through regular contact with BGS members, circulating key developments in research, education and examples of excellent clinical care; and to expanding our current BGS membership in order to ensure that older people’s healthcare is a priority for all those working in health and social care.
Why BGS members should get involved with the region:
It is essential for people working in a region to get involved with the work of the BGS and their regional group in order to make it a success.
Not only do you benefit from maintaining knowledge base and developing new skills for the benefit of your patients, but also you become an integral part of a highly supportive network of likeminded professionals.
