In Autumn 2020, the BGS surveyed its members about their experiences of working through the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of that survey have now been published in the Through the Visor report. We believe this to be the only multi-disciplinary four nations report detailing the experiences of healthcare professionals during the pandemic in acute, primary and community care settings.
However, we appreciate that this report tells us about a moment in time which many may describe as a calm between the storms. The survey was distributed at a time when the first wave of the pandemic had ended but most parts of the country were yet to encounter subsequent waves. We acknowledge that many, if not all, BGS members went on to experience more challenging circumstances over the winter of 2020/21 than they had previously.
We have therefore decided to repeat the survey to help us to understand our members’ experiences of working through winter 2020/21 and their hopes and fears as we move out of the pandemic.
We are also aiming to explore in more detail some of the areas that we touched upon in our first survey, such as training and care homes. We encourage all our members to complete the second survey and help us to better understand your experiences of working through the pandemic during the winter and how we can support you over the coming months and years.
The survey closes on 21 May 2021.
