Programme Topics

The three-day, interactive 2023 BGS Spring Meeting Programme focuses on the importance of cross specialty multidisciplinary teams working together to improve healthcare for older people. It covers core and topical areas of clinical healthcare, presenting the latest current research evidence in:

The Programme encompasses areas such as virtual wards, overprescribing and medicine optimisation and gives attendees the opportunity to:

  • Understand more about the key areas and challenges faced in geriatric medicine  
  • Hear focused presentations on core areas of geriatric medicine
  • Present the latest scientific research to British Geriatrics Society members and elected officers
  • Attend small group workshop sessions
  • Network and socialise with other healthcare professionals

The BGS Spring Meeting is a fantastic learning opportunity for all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) involved in the health and care of older people as well as surgical teams, anaesthetists, rehabilitation and Urgent Emergency Care teams are encouraged to join. Speaker Spotlights - Guest Lectures

Samantha Riley, Director of Making Data Count, National Team for Intensive Support, Chief Operating Officer Directorate, NHS England will speak on ‘Pitfalls of traditional data analysis approaches in the NHS and the avoidance of ‘spuddling’’.
Professor David Oliver, Consultant Geriatrician, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and former BGS President, will deliver the Marjory Warren Guest Lecture on ‘British Geriatrics: Past, Present and Possible Future’.

Abstracts & BGS Poster Platform

All abstract submitters have been notified and successful submissions have been assigned to the Programme as platform presentations and President's Round posters.
Others have been accepted as Poster abstracts will be available for viewing and comment via our BGS Poster Platform. The Platform is open to all healthcare professionals to view abstracts and posters submitted at any BGS conference, regardless of your own attendance at these meetings. The Abstract book as a pdf can be accessed here.

Attending the event

Claiming CPD

  • We cannot send CPD certificates to participants who haven't registered in advance, or those who watch after the live broadcast.
  • Participants accessing the archived version of the webinar may record this in their CPD diary using the approval code provided for the live event for up to four weeks after the event date. Further information about CPD can be found here, or here via the Federation of Colleges CPD site
  • If watching within 4 weeks of the live broadcast you can claim live CPD using the codes available on the RCP CPD diary or emailed to attendees. 
  • After 4 weeks this will be classed by the RCP as distance learning and will be assigned a distance learning code and can be added to the diary as usual distance learning activities would be.  
  • Please note live CPD has now expired but you can still watch the event on demand. You will need to register for distance learning in your CPD diary, using the code 144758.
