The Trent region includes a wide geographic area of the East Midlands, including the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. Within these counties there are a diverse range of busy city hospitals and more rural community hospitals, all caring for older people. Many of these hospitals have links to our excellent University campuses across the region including the Universities of Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Leicester.

Region Overview

There are strong research networks linking across the region including the East Midlands Research into Ageing Network. We have nationally recognised areas of excellence in the care of older people within our region, particularly regarding bone health, stroke and frailty.

Not only is the area a great place to work, but there are also great colleagues who have an active role in the British Geriatrics Society. Current and Previous BGS Presidents have included Professor Adam Gordon and Professor Tahir Masud. A number of other healthcare professionals within the region have deep involvement within the subcommittees of the BGS.

BGS Trent regional meetings have developed over the years into a well-attended event, with a variety of interesting keynote speakers. These meetings have lead to fantastic engagement between hospital teams throughout the region, spreading best practice and new ideas.

We look forward to welcoming you to future events with us, and hope that you enjoy your future bulletins!
