This meeting has applied for external CPD from the RCP (London) and will carry 18 hours  for the whole meeting; 6 per day

In order to receive your CPD certificate please ensure you scan your badge each day you are attending.

Certificates will be emailed after the meeting and record days attended based on your entry scans.

We have introduced family-friendly space at this meeting that has access to live streams of the main session. During registration please indicate your intention to use this space. The space, Rehearsal room 2 (family room) and Dressing room 2 (breastfeeding room), is located on the 1st floor and will have access to toilets and catering facilities as normal for delegates. In the space will be some toys, books and games as well as a nappy bin. Please note that the venue might not be able to accommodate warming of food, have dedicated baby changing facilities and some may require you sign a waiver having brought your own food onsite.

We know its important to our changing workforce and we ask that you understand we work within the constraints that limit us. We ask where possible that you are accompanied by a partner, family member or carer so you can attend the sessions. We won’t charge for partners to be present but we can’t guarantee you’ll be able to sit in the sessions with your child(ren) all the time. With access to the livestream and slido for questions we hope you can be as engaged as possible. We know this might not be adequate enough in all cases, and do ask for your understanding on this. Breastfeeding for geriatricians
La Leche League takes a holistic view of the whole family and how breastfeeding benefits mums and babies emotionally and physically, as well as nutritionally, and utilises the power of peer support for new mums. You can attend this 1 hour drop-in session facilitated by Sarah Blayney in the family room on Thursday 7th November 2019 at 10.45

Calling all Medical Students - Volunteers required for Geriatric Medicine Conference in Leicester 6-8 November 2019

We are looking for up to 10 volunteer Medical Students for each day of the meeting, who are interested in or considering a career in Geriatric Medicine to assist in the daily running of the event.

Interested candidates should email registrations@bgs.org.uk with their interest to support, information on which dates they can attend and an idea of how much their travel and accommodation might be.

Responsibilities

The meetings run from Wednesday 09.00 until Friday 16.30. Responsibilities will include assisting with registration, greeting & directing attendees to key points, providing microphone support during Q & A sessions in presentations. Other duties may be expected in addition to these key activities.

Cancellations made within 7 days of booking, unless we are two weeks before the meeting, will be refunded. Cancellations made after 7 days of booking incur a cancellation fee. Cancellations within two weeks of the meeting are not refundable.

Invoices or Receipts are attached to your confirmation email. Certificates are issued after the last day of the meeting and again emailed. You can also access these documents online via your BGS website account. To do so visit https://www.bgs.org.uk/user/login and login. Then click My events and certificates, navigate to the event attended and click on Invoice for your invoice, or if paid, this will function as your receipt. Your CPD certificate will be accessible under Certificate.

The Nurses and AHPs Council welcomes any nurses or AHPs to attend a lunchtime meeting to hear about the work of the council and meet with like-minded colleagues. There will be a short presentation followed by an opportunity to talk informally with other clinicians about the BGS’s work and learn how you can become more involved with improving healthcare for older people.

This session is organised by the Trainees' Council for those in training grades. All registrars, clinical fellows, IMT/CMT and foundation year doctors are invited to attend. There will be educational presentations as well as an update from trainees' council, and results of the recent elections for officer posts.

Undertaking a Quality Improvement project can be hard, particularly to get systematic support. This workshop is designed to support attendees to develop their understanding of the processes involved in quality improvement and seek one to one advice on furthering a project they are working on.

You will need to have an existing piece of QI work to bring with you and discuss to participate in the workshop.

We aim to discuss the nature and purpose of quality improvement, the stages of QI methodology, and the steps for ensuring effective QI supervision. We encourage all grades who wish to improve their practice in improving quality. 

Audience members will be able to submit questions to the chair throughout the meeting for consideration at the end of each presentation. Some speakers may use this for interactive polls. These are the top ten abstracts. They are viewed at the first break of the Thursday of the meeting by the President and one or two other senior researchers (including the VP of Research and academic development, and Age and Ageing abstract editor) depending upon their availability. 

The posters are displayed and labelled as the Presidents Round on poster boards. The President and the team will then walk around each poster with a microphone and ask the authors/presenters questions on their poster to explain to the audience. Each set of questions takes about three minutes and the process is one of support and encouragement. 

We have started uploading the presentation slides and sometimes video recordings from the conference onto the BGS website.  This is subject to receiving consent from the speakers and takes time to compile and upload.

Only BGS members and delegates can access the slides so you will need to log into your account to access the presentations. Your account is linked with the email address you've provided during registration or with your membership email address if you are a member of the society.

Born from the question “could humanities help us resist the inhumanities of life in hospital?" the fringe explores how the humanities can positively impact on the working lives of geriatricians, the MDT and patients. The fringe will take place during scheduled breaks in the conference and will include inspiring displays, installations, sessions and activities addressing a wide variety of relevant topics. Make the most of this novel experience alongside the traditional educational content of the conference. It is meant as learning and sharing experience and is suitable for all curious minds.
