- How can we improve the care older trauma patients get, and what does the data tell us about how they are treated currently.
- What are the pitfalls is assessing older trauma patients, why is trauma missed, how can the ABCDE approach be modified to take in to account the different physiology.

Dr Tueger is a consultant hematologist at Countess of Chester Hospital since 2008 as a consultant hematologist. He received his specialist training in London on the Guys’ and St Thomas Hospital training programs. He is a general Hematologist with expertise in the management of a wide range of blood diseases including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.

Sarah Mistry - Chief Executive, British Geriatrics Society
Sarah has been Chief Executive of the British Geriatrics Society since February 2019. She was previously Director of Programmes and Partnerships at Bond, the membership association for UK NGOs working in international aid and development. She led Bond's work supporting NGOs to achieve greater impact in their overseas development programmes. She was responsible for a major sector-wide organisational effectiveness programme funded by the Department of International Development, and co-ordinated the UK NGO sector's response to the safeguarding crisis of 2018. She was also responsible for Bond’s overall strategy, its partnerships with business, universities and civil society, and its fundraising. Before Bond, she was Head of Research and Evaluation at the Big Lottery Fund. She has worked in evaluation and management roles for VSO and the British Council, and as a management consultant. She is on the board of the Scottish Power Foundation and of Gender Links (South Africa).
This session will explore what being a strong community means and how members can contribute to the BGS goal of improving older people’s healthcare. It will profile different aspects of the BGS’s work including policy, education and training, research and clinical quality. The need for a strong, collective voice to advocate for older people’s interests and high-quality healthcare is paramount as we come out of the pandemic. This session aims to motivate you, whatever your role and setting, to get involved as part of the BGS community.

Dr Richard Ellis - Consultant Neurologist , The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust
Richard Ellis is a consultant neurologist based at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. He established the first neurology ‘hot’ clinic in the region in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital Acute Medical Unit. He has a subspecialty interest in movement disorders and runs a dedicated clinic at the Walton Centre. He also runs a series of botulinum toxin clinics for patients with a variety of neurological conditions including spasticity and dystonia.
