The West Midlands Region Autumn Meeting 2021 was an education meeting consisting of updates on services from across the West Midlands. Focus on Frailty - Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust
Dr Shams Duja - Consultant Physician & Geriatrician, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust
Dr Duja is a Consultant Physician and Geriatrician at Dudley Group of Hospitals. His special interest is Movement Disorders. He is also Parkinson's Excellence Network Lead for the West Midlands. As Care of the Elderly Department Lead at Dudley Group of Hospitals, he has been leading the Frailty in West Midlands Frailty Collaborative Group at different platforms. Dr Duja is working closely with NHSE and NHSI to improve Frailty services in the region. Currently representing our trust in the development of MCP.
Transforming older peoples’ services - University Hospital of North Midlands
Dr Amit Arora - Consultant Geriatrician and Associate Medical Director, University Hospital of North Midlands
Dr Amit Arora has been a consultant geriatrician in the North Midlands since 2004. He is interested in all aspects of ageing including quality, policy and transformation.
He has served in many national workstreams and is an active member of many advisory bodies related to healthcare and has contributed internationally.
He has over 100 publications including invited book chapters, editorials, reviews and college reports.
He is also the founding director of the Midlands Frailty Academy which provides frailty training to all grades of health and social care workers.
In 2016, he developed the ‘National Deconditioning Awareness and Prevention Campaign: Sit Up Get Dressed Keep Moving’ the concept of which is now being adopted by many hospitals in UK and abroad and is highlighting the importance of activity in hospitalized older people.

Dr Naqvi is a Consultant Geriatrician at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. Her interests are in Orthogeriatrics, surgical liaison, and looking after older people well. She is also the education lead role Foundation Year 1 Program Director.

Dr Eliza Griffiths - Consultant Geriatrician, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is a consultant geriatrician at Warwick hospital with an interest in frailty and Parkinson's disease. She completed the geriatric training programme in the West Midlands.

Dr Rob Wears - Consultant Geriatrician, University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
Trained in Manchester and graduated in 1986 before moving to the West Midlands. Rob was a Consultant Geriatrician at Solihull Hospital (1994-2020) and is now at Warwick Hospital (November 2020 to date).
Currently Chair Geriatric medicine SAC (RCP), director of quality for WM school of medicine and TPD geriatric medicine (West Midlands). Clinical interests include dementia, Parkinson’s disease and nutrition. Nonclinical interests include puppy walking for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
